While the news about Kiku Sharda‘s arrest and release keep circulating in the Indian media, reports of over six bomb blasts occurring in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta are coming in. While more news trickles in, Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi has posted a video on Twitter of the HORRIFIC attacks.
He tweeted, “Had a friend send me this video he took from his office window in Jakarta.. #jakartabombing” In the video you can see terrorists setting off grenades and also firing at will. While we hear that six people have been killed by the blasts, reports also suggest that more than a dozen attackers are still at large and have been exchanging fire with security forces.
President Joko Widodo has called for calm but condemned the “act of terror”. He said, “We all are grieving for the fallen victims of this incident, but we also condemn the act that has disturbed the security and peace and spread terror among our people.”
National police chief spokesman Anton Charliyan told AFP that both police officers and civilians were among the dead. He added that no arrests had been made. After the initial blasts reported outside the Sarinah shopping centre in Jakarta, armed police, snipers and armoured vehicles arrived on the streets of the capital. There have been reports of further explosions and exchanges of gun fire, even as members of the public took shelter behind police cordons.
